where the Elephants weep

By Angela M. Kneale

where the Elephants weep

Rocks once
Crushed
underfoot Man

has no Trust
rolling across
the Desert like an
armadillo might.

he Tears
trees
supple young
Limbs

Droplets of water
sliding down roughed
Trunks, Disappear

at the sight of
Small shady Trees
comfort
comes

(only a mirage)
leaves
Crumble like glass made
from desert sand

Barren trees stand alone
in stark heat and
lizards sprint between
shady Rocks.
